Who: Commerce City Community Development Department
What: The Planner I or Planner II is responsible for current planning activities including comprehensive project review and development support to departmental staff through research, coordination and preparation of case reports for presentation to Boards, Commissions, the public and City Council. Receives, reviews and comments on development plans, landscape plans, architectural drawings, draft ordinance amendments and draft project reports. Presents cases and answers questions at public hearings; meets with affected citizens, landowners and developers. Reviews building permit applications. Provides assistance and information to the general public through Planner of the Day duties.
Qualifications: The Planner I position requires a Masters degree in planning, urban design or related field or a Bachelor’s degree in planning, urban design or related field and one year of planning experience. At least one year as a Planning Intern, Planning Technician or Planner is strongly preferred. The Planner II position requires a Masters degree in planning, urban design, or related field and three years experience as a planner, preferably in a municipal setting. A good understanding of engineering and legal terminology with strong research, analysis, problem solving, and math skills is preferred. Must have excellent customer service and communication skills. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Spanish language skills preferred.
