COMPENSATION: $48,000 based on experience
ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND: Communities United (CU) is a growing intergenerational grassroots organization that works across communities on issues of education justice, increasing access to affordable and quality healthcare and housing, youth investment, and justice reinvestment. CU’s organizing approach actively engages and develops community and institutional members to advance social, racial, and economic justice. Recently named one of five global awardees of the W.K. Kellogg Foundation Racial Equity 2030 Challenge.
Communities United seeks a self-motivated and dynamic leader with the following but not limited skills and experience:
- Exceptional writing and oral communication skills and ability to listen and motivate people from diverse backgrounds to action
- Experience in facilitation of youth leadership development
- Strong organizational skills, including attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines
- Excellent time-management
- The ability to proactively identify challenges and work to find solutions
- The ability to work independently while collaborating with others on common goals
- Strong computer skills, specifically Microsoft Office suite
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as necessary
- English/Spanish bilingual skills are a plus
Other requirements:
- It is required that a Youth Organizer must have their own transportation and personal vehicle.
- Previous experience working in community organizing and or youth development is a plus.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Conducting Effective Outreach and Base Building Work: Using various and creative methods to recruit new leaders, keeping accurate records, and facilitating outreach activities.
- Leadership Development: The organizer will constantly work to develop the skills, capacity, and analysis of leaders through informal and formal leadership development work focused on a racial and health equity lens. This includes participating in and preparing leaders to facilitate weekly meetings. The organizer will work to encourage participation and a sense of ownership among leaders across youth-led projects.
- Communicating and Reporting: Providing monthly narrative and statistical reports on work accomplished; actively participating in staff retreats; keeping up with database and reporting requirements.
