Nursing & Senior Support Assistant (Fire Department)

STARTING PAY RATE: $18.03 - $20.22 per hour based on a 35-hour workweek. Salary dependent on qualifications. The salary range for this position is $18.03 - $26.80. This position is represented by a union; you may refer to the AFSCME collective bargaining agreement available on our website.

JOB SUMMARY:
This position provides support to the Nursing & Senior Services Division with a variety of duties at two separate facilities. A major responsibility includes assisting with the daily older adult meal/activity program by providing both customer service and clerical activities. This position also assists with the medical equipment lending program as the primary person responsible for cleaning/disinfecting of medical equipment and occasional backup for lending activities.
The ideal candidate will need to effectively communicate to a full range of people, be able to work cooperatively and effectively with others to achieve common goals, and shift gears comfortably. To succeed in this role applicants will need the capacity to understand and be sensitive to the feelings of others.
JOB DUTIES:
1. Performs duties in support of the senior services meal/activity program.
2. Provides cleaning and disinfection of durable medical equipment.
3. Assists in management of division volunteers.
4. Provides occasional backup for medical equipment lending functions.
5. Travels independently to both division locations.
6. Respects residents’ rights and ensures confidentiality.
7. Participates in divisional meetings.
8. Works with other division team members toward a common goal of providing the highest level of service possible.
9. Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Education equivalent to a high school diploma.
2. A minimum of six months of experience working with older adults or in a nursing setting.
3. Possession of a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
4. Proficiency with current computer technology, job specific software, and customer service systems.
