Description:
The Village of Richton Park is seeking an experienced, energetic individual to serve as its next Economic Development Specialist. The hub of Chicago's Southland suburbs, the Village of Richton Park strives to be a premier community that is committed to providing a safe, resident and business friendly environment, with high quality services, excellent schools and a responsive government. Scope of Work
The Economic Development Specialist will conduct program administration of multiple economic development related programs, administer the Village’s business license program and directly process all license applications; provide general office and customer service support including, answering customer questions, providing backup front desk support, assisting in the processing of payments and performing data entry (invoices and permits) into Village systems.
Supervision Received
Reports to the Community Economic Development Director or his/her designee.
Requirements of Work
- Education/Experience: A Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field OR an Associate’s Degree in a relevant field and two years of related work experience
- Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft Outlook; and, strong analytical and writing/typing skills using Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word
- Competencies: Dependable research, writing and public communication skills; strong organizational and time management skills; and basic understanding of land use planning, economic development and development process
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Administer incentive programs for redevelopment and business development
- Maintain incentive program materials
- Meet with applicants, review and process applications
- Monitor and track program performance and outcomes
- Present findings internally and at relevant public meetings, as needed
- Maintain confidentiality
- Perform annual TIF Reporting and support the annual meeting of the TIF Joint Review Board
- Write and administer local, state and federal grants as needed
- Liaise with partner institutions: CSCC, CSEDC, CSCVB, SBDC/WBDC, WCEZ, etc.
- Organize and promote ribbon cuttings, groundbreakings and business development events
- Support and take minutes at meetings of the Economic Development Commission
- Perform business outreach with local businesses including emails, site visits and meetings
- Provide research and support on additional projects
- Administer the Village’s business license program and process all license applications
- Provide support for the front desk and phones as needed
- Respond to customer questions regarding the development review process
- Assist in the processing of payments for permits and related fees
- Perform all job duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Required
- A Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field OR an Associate’s Degree in a relevant field and two years of related work experience
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft Outlook
- Strong analytical and writing/typing skills using Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word
- Dependable research, writing and public communication skills
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Basic understanding of land use planning, economic development and development process
Preferred
- Bachelor’s Degree in Planning or Public Administration and two years of related work experience
- Broad understanding of municipal policies and processes
- Experience in the use of GIS mapping systems
- Familiarity with web-based content management systems
Salary & Benefits:
Salary Range: $45,000 - 50,000
