Asia on Argyle Corridor Ambassador – Uptown United

Job Summary

Corridor Ambassadors provide a friendly presence to welcome residents back to
local businesses. They will walk the commercial corridor, greet passers-by, and
provide directions and other basic help. Ambassadors will serve as a watchful
presence and as necessary report dangerous or unusual activity. Ambassadors will maintain a friendly presence with all residents. Hours and walk patterns are subject to change.

Start Date: Flexible (by June 30, 2022, at the latest)
Supervisor: Asia on Argyle Ambassador Manager
Hours Worked: Part-time, paid-hourly position, approximately 20 hours per week; contract through April 30, 2023

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Perform outreach to merchants along the Asia on Argyle corridor to make them aware of available programs, events, CTA construction updates, etc. in the community.
• Act as safety escorts for residents requesting assistance
• Report emergencies: contact medical and emergency services for community stakeholders in crisis
• Report safety hazards, street cleanliness, graffiti, and other issues
• Conduct wellness checks on individuals in public spaces
• Provide referrals that link Corridor visitors to available services and programs
• Enhance pedestrian experience in the corridor through corridor safety, upkeep up Argyle Alfresco dining areas, and neighborhood engagement
• Being a liaison to both corridor businesses and visitors on CTA construction updates, re-routes, closures, etc.
• Provide a visible, non-law enforcement safety presence to promote safety and connect people to services
• Performs other duties, as needed and when available, which are reasonably within the scope of the tasks enumerated above.

Experience / Training / Knowledge / Skills

• Pleasant and welcoming demeanor when interacting with all residents and employees of local businesses required
• Must be comfortable standing and walking the corridor for long periods in all weather conditions
• Must be proactive about promoting safety
• Reliable attendance and a good attitude every day is necessary
• Must be able to pay careful attention to surroundings, and respond according to training if necessary
• Ability to write clear reports about activity on the corridor required
• Must complete required training programs when necessary
• Must have a valid picture ID and Social Security Card
• Must have a working cell phone
• Individuals who speak multiple languages are strongly encouraged to apply
