The University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) is seeking to hire a Graduate School Specialist for the Liberal Arts and Sciences - Department of Psychology. The Graduate School Specialist position will serve as a coordinator to administrators in the development and implementation of policies and procedures for the graduate program in Psychology. The graduate program has five different concentrations that the position advises and coordinates under the administrative supervision of the Director of Graduate Studies. The position entails highly specialized consultation in the area of policy interpretation and procedural applications within the Department of Psychology, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the University Graduate College.
Duties:
Advises and coordinates advisement of graduate students and faculty relative to graduate training policies and procedures.
Advises/assists in problem resolution concerning students, programs, academic department policies, and graduate school policy.
Manages the processing of prospective graduate student applications (400+) and key recruitment days and activities.
Responsible for responding to all prospective student inquiries about admissions process/requirements and program information.
Creative responsibility and management of department’s social media presence via Facebook page, departmental website, quarterly newsletter, and weekly news announcements.
Coordinates publication and revision of university and departmental reports, brochures, handbooks, and catalogs containing graduate school policy and procedures; communicates changes/updates as necessary.
Responsible for planning and executing departmental events, including student award banquet, visiting day, new student orientation and other key activities.
Manages large student database and records, including alumni tracking
Consults with representatives of other departments of the University, (such as financial aid office, or registration), as well as representatives from outside the university, in order to effectively manage the graduate program. university, in order to effectively manage the graduate program
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
1. Any one or combination totaling six years (72 months) from one of the categories below:
(a) progressively more responsible work experience related to directing/administering graduate programs, including policy interpretation, advisement of university officials, advisement of students, and implementation of policies and procedures
(b) college course work leading to a major in any field
· Bachelor Degree equals 3 years (36 months)
· Master’s Degree equals 4 years (48 months)
Preferred Qualifications:
At least three years in higher education setting working directly with students.
Familiarity with general student services and admission principles and processes.
Excellent communication, analytical, organizational and computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office and other related software.
Master’s degree.
Experience in creating newsletters and other promotional material.
Prior experience with Banner software would be a plus.
