We provide professional design services to architects, engineers, municipalities, corporations, and institutions throughout Chicago, the Midwest, and Asia.

Position Description: site design group, ltd. is seeking a Field Assistant / Landscape Technician staff loan for a monthly contract working for a municipality on Chicago's Southside. The selected candidate will work from the municipality under the direction of a Certified Arborist, Landscape Architect, and Project Manager, while having access to the staff and resources at site design group, ltd. Working with the municipality, the position includes professional arboriculture activities as well as landscape design and review for a tree removals/plantings as well as landscape reviews. The position also includes updating a Tree Keeper system. The position is estimated to last for three months, beginning in July 2015, but may continue into the fall. This is a field position and requires access to an automobile.

Qualifications: • Entry Level Arborist, Landscape Technician, or Landscape Architect/Designer • Experience in the Chicagoland region • Experience with completing or reviewing tree inventories, Emerald Ash Borer Tree Treatment programs, tree removals, tree replacements, and infant tree care • Bachelor or Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture, Forestry, Ecology, Surveying, or a related field or relevant certification • Competency with relevant software, including; Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, Autodesk AutoCAD, GIS/GPS is a plus • Ability to handle multiple tasks accurately and efficiently • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, clients, and consultants • Ability to represent site design group, ltd. to clients and company friends in a gracious and professional manner • A commitment to design excellence and innovation

Salary: • Commensurate with experience.

The Kern County Personnel Department is accepting applications for Supervising Planner to fill one immediate opening in the Planning and Community Development Department. 


Primary responsibilities include: timely and efficient design, coordination and completion of time sensitive development projects; effective interaction with other agencies, consultants, and the public; supervision of professional planners by assigning/prioritizing work, training, and conducting performance evaluations; and interpretation of laws, ordinances, regulations, technical reports, and maps. Ideal candidates possess strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills, as well as strong ethical, professional, and service-oriented leadership skills. 


Employment standards: Bachelor's Degree in Planning or a related field and three years of professional level planning experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to obtain the knowledge and skill to successfully perform the essential duties of the job. 


Knowledge of: supervisory principles; planning principles and theory; applicable planning and zoning laws, ordinances and regulations; surveying; research methodologies; and, report writing techniques. 


Skill in: monitoring and evaluating staff; prioritizing and managing high priority projects; handling sensitive situations; interpreting laws, ordinances and regulations; preparing legal descriptions; researching; preparing technical reports and documentation; designing and drafting plans; managing projects; preparing and giving presentations; and, communicating both orally and in writing sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction. 


Salary: $6,145 - $7,502 commensurate with experience.
