The Will County Governmental League (WCGL), one of the metropolitan Chicago regional Councils of Government (COGs), is seeking applications for the position of Planning Liaison. The WCGL represents 33 communities across Will and Grundy Counties. This entry level, full- time position will be engaged in the WCGL’s Transportation and Member programs.
A successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in managing the WCGL Surface Transportation Program (STP), Transportation Improvement Program (TIP), and running training opportunities. Managing the STP program includes supervising the preparation and processing of League members applications for federal funding, recommending priorities for various federally funded projects, and maintaining records on STP funds allocated to and expended by the League through active program management
The WCGL is also responsible for the programming of all federal and state funded transportation projects in the regions’ Transportation Improvement Program (TIP). The Planning Liaison will assist in program management for projects across all of Will County in the TIP. In order to ensure accuracy in the TIP, the position will regularly coordinate with various regional organizations such as the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP), and Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). This position serves as staff for the WCGL Transportation Committee by preparing meeting agendas, minutes, and meeting packets.
The Planning Liaison provides technical assistance in obtaining and administering federal and state transportation funds. Maintaining proper interactions with municipalities and elected officials to understand local transportation priorities and concerns is a must. This position regularly represents these viewpoints and priorities in regional, state, and national forums. In addition, this position will assist with WCGL sponsored events and all other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
A degree in planning, public administration, political science, or related field required. Knowledge of regional transportation and planning related issues is desired, and local knowledge is helpful. A successful candidate will have strong interpersonal skills for interactions with elected officials and the business community, as well as strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task. Regional travel required.
This is an entry-level position with strong benefits and a salary range of $42,000-$52,000 (DOQ).
