*Public Administration Tenure Track Faculty Position*

The Department of Political Science & Public Administration seeks candidates for an assistant professor tenure-track positions that will primarily contribute to the Department’s NASPAA-accredited and nationally ranked MPA Program. Students studying in the MPA Program come from diverse backgrounds, and take courses on both full and part-time basis. Applicants should have primary research and teaching interests in one of the core areas of public administration, including human resource management, organization theory, public management, nonprofit management, or public budgeting and financial management. Demonstrated excellence or strong potential in research that will contribute to and enhance the department’s national reputation is essential. Applicants are required to have a Ph.D. in Public Administration, Public Policy, Political Science, or related field at the time of appointment. Course load is two courses a semester.  The nine-month tenure track position begins August 2014.

The University of North Carolina at Charlotte is a doctoral, research intensive university, located in one of the nation’s fastest growing metropolitan areas on an expanding modern campus. One of sixteen campuses in one of the oldest public university systems in the United States, UNC Charlotte offers over 26,000 culturally diverse students a wide range of undergraduate and graduate degree programs. The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences houses 20 departments in the humanities, social and behavioral sciences, physical sciences, and military sciences, as well as eight research centers and institutes and 13 interdisciplinary programs.

The Department of Political Science and Public Administration has 22 faculty members, houses a NASPAA-accredited MPA Program, and is a core department in the interdisciplinary Ph.D. in Public Policy Program. The MPA Program operates in an urban environment where it has strong ties to local government and non-profit organizations, as well as the local chapters of the American Society for Public Administration and the National Forum for Black Public Administrators. The program offers courses both on the main campus and at the university’s Center City Building in downtown Charlotte. *UNC Charlotte*

*Rauch Distinguished Professor, American Politics*

The Department of Political Science & Public Administration at UNC Charlotte is recruiting an outstanding candidate for the Marshall A. Rauch Distinguished Professor of Political Science to begin Fall 2014. The successful candidate will have a distinguished research record including publications and a proven record of funded research, excellent teaching credentials, and the ability to work with colleagues from several academic departments and the community. The department seeks a scholar of American Politics and Public Policy. The successful candidate will be expected to teach three courses per year, conduct funded research, and be a core faculty member in the interdisciplinary Ph.D. program in Public Policy.

This distinguished professorship was established by Marshall A. Rauch, a long-time state leader in politics and the community who served as state senator. The endowment that he established allows UNC Charlotte to pay a competitive salary as well as $5,000 in annual research funds.  There will be a supportive start-up package. The professor must be tenurable as full professor and may  hold the endowed professorship for two five-year terms.

*Local Government Management*

The Division of Public Administration at Northern Illinois University (NIU) invites applications for *two anticipated tenure track positions *in public administration to specialize in local government management, rank open, to begin August 2014, with intention to hire one assistant professor and one senior professor. Both positions require a PhD in Public Administration or a related field. ABD’s will be considered with PhD completion required by date of appointment.

Applicants should be, or have the potential to be, an active scholar as well as a high quality teacher. Successful applicants will have primary teaching and research interests in local government management, and will be expected to teach core courses in the local government management specialization of the MPA program (Local and Metropolitan government and Local Government Administration), with preference given to candidates who can teach other elective courses in local government management (economic development, strategic planning, regional government, ethics, and public sector innovation). Please refer to the Division’s website for a description of the local government specialization. Applicants should be able to teach at least one or more of the core courses for the MPA degree including: organization theory and behavior, human resources management, information technology, public budgeting and finance, performance measurement, or theory of public administration. In addition to the MPA Program, Division faculty may teach undergraduate courses for three university majors, and in the political science doctoral program.

Successful candidates must also demonstrate a strong research and publication record (or the potential for such) in a substantive area of local government management. Candidates with experience in working with public service practitioners are encouraged to apply, although this is not required.

The main NIU campus is located in DeKalb, Illinois, 60 miles west of Chicago. NIU enrolls more than 22,000 students, including a graduate body of over 6,400, and instruction is offered in DeKalb and three off-campus sites – Hoffman Estates, Rockford and Naperville to serve metropolitan Chicago students. NIU is nestled in a vibrant economic region that offers exceptional research opportunities for scholars in local government, and works closely with the University’s Center for Governmental Studies. It is anticipated that the Division of Public Administration will be situated within a new School of Public and Global Affairs, along with the Department of Political Science and the NGO Leadership & Development (NGOLD) Center.

The MPA Program is ranked 5th nationally in local government management and ranked 12th in budgeting and finance as part of its NASPAA accredited MPA. The Division fields about 50 full time graduate internships in local government and non-profit organizations throughout metropolitan Chicago. The MPA program is about evenly split between pre-career and in-career students. More than 95 percent of MPA students are hired within six months of graduation. In fact, one-third of all Illinois city managers are NIU MPA graduates. The La Follette School of Public Affairs seeks to make one tenure-track appointment at the assistant professor level. We encourage compelling applicants from all aspects of domestic and international public affairs, especially public finance, but also public management, or particular policy areas such as health, environment or education.  We seek candidates with a compelling publication record or a productive research program with high publishing potential, and a commitment to teaching. University and professional service as appropriate are required.

Applicants should have completed Ph.D. training in economics, political science, sociology, public administration, public policy or a related social science field prior to the start of the appointment.
