Economic Development Internship

The Project Director for Economic Development in Cook County’s Department of Planning & Development is recruiting an intern to help with a variety of initiatives.

Internship Sponsor: Andre Garner, Project Director for Economic Development

Internship Length: 16-20 weeks

Time Commitment: 15-20 hrs per week

Potential Intern Tasks:

1) Database development and management
  • The Cook County Urban Agriculture Network
  • Business retention and expansion assessments
  • Municipal contacts
  • Project tracking
  • Community, business and professional development organizations
  • TIF districts
  • Equity, debt, government assistance and philanthropic resources
  • Performance Management

2) Message and information distribution

  • Regular and ad hoc memos, letters and bulletins to communicate with municipalities, agencies and other economic development partners */{We need a mechanism for communicating things like requests for business relocations, RFPs, and other short turnaround responses and information dissemination}/*
  • Information for public distribution through the Office of Public Affairs and through the Cook County Economic Development web portal
  • Marketing Material development
  • Development of presentations and talking points

3) Contact/Inquiry tracking and resolution management */{ie: dozens of monthly phone calls , emails and requests channeled through interpersonal communication for County demographics, program guidelines, resource referrals, public speaking & presentations, collateral and marketing materials, business pitches, proposals, etc.}/*
