Active Transportation Alliance
In 2014, the Cook County Department of Public Health was awarded a federal Partnerships to Improve Community Health (PICH) grant by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to combat the high prevalence of obesity and heart disease in 33 underserved suburban Cook County communities. PICH is the newest generation in CDC’s long history of community health initiatives that aim to improve health and reduce the burden of chronic diseases. The program uses evidence- and practice-based strategies to create or strengthen healthy environments that make it easier for people to make healthy choices.
