Help make Chicago the most bicycle friendly city in the country!
Help implement Chicago’s Streets for Cycling Plan 2020 and make Chicago the most bicycle friendly city in America. The Chicago Bike Program is responsible for the planning, design and implementation of bike lanes that are comfortable for all skill levels and promoting non- motorized transportation as a convenient way to travel throughout Chicago. Work will be carried out at the Chicago Department of Transportation’s downtown offices and in the field throughout Chicago.
STARTING SALARY: $12.75 - $14.50/hour contingent on level of education.
TASKS: Preparing documents and graphics for meetings with the public, preparing maps and project summary reports for elected officials, conducting detailed field surveys and collecting data to plan new bikeways and ensure that existing bikeways are well maintained; assisting the bikeways team with other tasks.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  •   Enrolled in an accredited urban planning program or related field.
  •   Enthusiasm and initiative to improve bicycling in Chicago.
  •   Familiarity with innovative bicycle infrastructure
  •   Ability to work independently, efficiently, and cooperatively.
  •   Excellent interpersonal and writing skills; high attention to detail.
  •   Comfortable, able, and willing to bicycle on Chicago streets.
  •   Proficiency in ArcGIS and Adobe Creative Suite.
    HOURS & TERM: Tentative start date: September 8th, 2014
    Part-time (10-20 hours per week) during school year with possible full-time employment (up to

    40 hours per week) over summer and winter breaks.
