Summer Internship Opportunity - Illinois Housing Council

 Title: 2026 Emerging Leaders Program Intern

Type: full-time

Location: Varies, dependent on position; possible locations are listed below in the summary section

Pay: Varies from $22/hr to $25/hr depending on position

Summary: The Illinois Housing Council (IHC) is excited to introduce its Emerging Leaders Internship (ELI) Program as the next step in its Emerging Leaders Network, with a goal of growing talent throughout Illinois’ affordable housing industry. With its internship program, IHC aims to provide opportunities to increase exposure to the affordable housing industry and to develop a well-rounded pipeline of new affordable housing professionals. 

The paid internship program takes place over a 12-week period during the summer. In addition to working at a Host Company, IHC offers interns supplemental learning opportunities such as lunch-and-learns, trainings, and property tours.
Internship positions are primarily focused on affordable housing development and preservation. 
Skills interns can expect to gain will depend on the specific internship position and host company but may include financial modeling and proformas; funding application; closings; community and resident engagement; design and construction management; asset and property management; and/or affordable housing policy. 
Internships are available in Chicago, Evanston, Libertyville, Skokie, Peoria, and Springfield
