The School of Public Health is seeking an experienced Grants & Contracts Associate (Proposal Development Specialist) to join our Office of Research Services team. This position implements the research priorities in the School of Public Health in alignment with the College's research strategic plan. The Grants and Contracts Associate (Proposal Development Specialist) provides expert guidance to SPH faculty, staff, and students in maximizing the competitiveness of collaborative and complex public health research proposals. The Proposal Development Specialist customizes support services for investigators, which includes coordinating all aspects of the proposal submission process, developing project-specific grant submission timelines, creating and maintaining college-wide proposal development resources for use by faculty and staff, and serving as a resource for investigators on compliance with university and sponsor policies.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Collaborate and work with the Principal Investigator, research team, and external partners in building a comprehensive research proposal to be considered for funding.
- Read and interpret funding opportunities and communicate sponsor requirements and review criteria to the research team. Organize and prepare pre-award proposal documentation, including timeline, budget and justification, institutional information, sponsor compliance, regulatory information, and Institutional Review Board (IRB) status.
- Communicate with subrecipient to gather pre-award documents. Collect and route documentation for Just-In-Time sponsor requests. Review grant proposal content for conformance with application requirements.
- Provide educational resources and timely information to investigators to ensure proposals are compliant with protection of human research subjects requirements.
- Teach faculty, staff, and students principles of grant proposal development. Maintain templates for non-technical grant documents. Use productivity tools such as cloud-based file sharing platforms, virtual meeting software, and website editing tools to disseminate grant resources for college faculty and staff.
- Contribute written content to internal and external research communications, including the college website, listserv, and printed materials.
- Coordinate and support College-wide research initiatives and events to promote research collaboration and to highlight faculty and student research achievements. Oversee all aspects of the annual SPH Student Research and Scholarship Day and student poster competition. Manage the SPH student conference poster grant program.
- Assist with the collection of data on research office metrics identified in the strategic plan.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting, finance, economics or a field related to the position
Preferred Qualifications:
- Education and experience in public health, public administration and policy, or non- profit management.
- Knowledge of principles and processes involved in contractual and grant monitoring procedures.
- Knowledge of computers; word processing, spreadsheets, and database management.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to work effectively with wide range of constituencies in a diverse community; strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to negotiate and persuade; reconcile differences.
- Ability to provide technical advice and information to faculty and staff in area of expertise.
- Ability to perform complex tasks and to prioritize multiple projects. Ability to motivate, develop, and direct people as they work, identifying the best people for the job.
- Ability to analyze data and formulate conclusions.
- Ability to function in a high stress environment in order to meet deadlines.
- Ability to take initiative; willingness to take on responsibilities and challenges; exercise independent judgment and discretion.
