Senior Research Engineer (Senior Transportation Planner), UIC - Chicago, IL

The Urban Transportation Center in the College of Urban Planning and Public Affairs (CUPPA) at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) (http://cuppa.uic.edu/academics/pa) is currently seeking a Visiting Senior Transportation Planner.

This position conducts research activities including the development of research ideas and proposals, and bring statistical modeling abilities to supporting policy research, at UTC and in leading research projects currently ongoing at UTC as well as pursuing new funding opportunities for building a sustainable research portfolio. In addition to research activities, this position also mentors students involved in research activities at UTC. Furthermore, this position writes reports and manages data as required by the principal investigator and will have the ability to lead projects and serve as a principal investigator or co-PI.  This position is funded from grant money and the expectation is that the chosen candidate will have the ability to add to the Center’s funding portfolio by creating their own research track while working collaboratively with the Center’s staff and faculty.  Relevant work experience in areas such as public transportation (micro-transit/micro-mobility), equity, and/or advances in transportation engineering such as autonomous (connected vehicles), and clean energy adoption.

The minimum qualifications for this position are a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, Transportation Engineering, Transportation Planning, or related discipline as well as relevant work experience in areas such as public transportation (micro-transit/micro-mobility), equity, and/or advances in transportation engineering such as autonomous (connected vehicles), and clean energy adoption as well as ten years post-Ph.D. experience.
