Planner, Village of North Aurora

What: The Village of North Aurora, Illinois (est. population 18,500located in Kane County is seeking qualified applicants for the newly created, full-time position of Planner in the Community Development Department, reporting to the Community and Economic Development Director.

Responsibilities:

The Village is seeking a motivated Planner who would be responsible for reviewing building permits requiring zoning reviewresponding to inquiries regarding land-uses determinationsassist with reviewing and updating the Village’s Comprehensive Plan, assisting with the analysis and coordination of TIF requests, preparing and processing special use and variance petitions, preparing materials for Plan Commission and Village Board meetings, assisting with the preparation of text amendments to the zoning code and working with the Village development team. The position will be required to attend monthly Plan Commission meetings and may be required to attend other Village meetings as well.

Qualifications:

Qualified candidates must be detail-oriented, organized and able to multi-task, possess excellent analytical, interpersonal and communication skills and work professionally with developers, Department Heads, staff, elected and appointed officials and citizens of the community.  A Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Planning or related field is required. Master’s Degree in Planning, Public Administration or related field is preferred.  A minimum of two (2) years of related experience is required, four (4) years of related experience preferredThe ideal candidate will have the ability to read and interpret maps, use GIS systems, read and interpret complex zoning codes, annexation agreements and other planning documents.
