Planner

The Village of Montgomery, IL (pop. 20,000), a diverse and growing community covering 9.51 square miles, seeks candidates for the position of Planner. Montgomery is located south of Aurora, IL and is approximately 40 miles from Chicago. The community continues to experience steady residential, retail, and manufacturing/industrial growth. Downtown revitalization is a priority, and several new businesses are moving forward with plans for development in the next several months.

Reporting to the Director of Community Development, the Planner is responsible for conducting plan reviews of development proposals, preparing studies and reports, and for providing technical advice and guidance to the development community, residents, and business owners. The Planner serves as the liaison to an appointed Planning & Zoning Commission and prepares review comments and memos to be reviewed by its members. The Village is seeking a self-starting and collaborative professional with strong interpersonal and customer service skills. The successful candidate will:

Possess a bachelor’s degree in urban planning or a closely related field. 
Have 1 to 3 years of experience in urban planning, GIS, or similar position.
Possess considerable knowledge of the development and applications of comprehensive plans, zoning and subdivision ordinances, site development rules, regulations, and ordinances, local/regional land use, zoning, land development plan review, and site plan review. 
Be able to analyze and interpret plans and determine whether plans conform to provisions of the applicable codes and ordinances.
Possess well developed writing and speaking skills and the ability to maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, public officials, developers, business owners, and residents.

The salary range for this position is $58,822 - $82,368. Starting salary is dependent on qualifications and includes an excellent benefits package.
