Job Description
We are currently seeking a full time Transportation Planner for our Chicago office to be part of a dynamic team that provides a range of planning services for clients, including corridor studies, safety research and analysis, strategic planning, and community-wide multi-modal transportation plans. The planner will be part of an interdisciplinary team of consultants (planning, urban design, transportation engineering) and serve as a contributor on project tasks, including technical analysis; public and stakeholder outreach; and development of maps, reports, presentations, and graphics.
The successful candidate must have the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and concisely through writing and graphical representation.
Primary Responsibilities
The selected individual will perform a variety of tasks, such as:
- Conducting site visits and field observations
- Performing traffic and transportation analyses
- Developing transportation metric reports
- Preparing high-quality graphics
- Writing technical reports
- Developing presentation materials
- Preparing strategic transportation plans
- Preparing conceptual designs of proposed projects
- Conducting corridor/area transportation studies
- Developing parking management plans
- Preparation of master plans
Ideal candidates will possess the following qualities:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to develop high-quality graphics to support communications materials
- Proficiency in GIS and analysis add-ons, such as Network Analyst and Spatial Analyst, required
- Strong command of transportation and urban planning concepts
- Command of technical analysis supporting transportation decisions
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite required
- Proficiency in Google SketchUp or other graphics software desired
- Proficiency in Python desired
Candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Master’s in urban planning, transportation engineering, or equivalent degree
- 1-4 years of experience
- Authorized to work in the US
