Description:
Reporting directly to the Supervisor, Schedules and Services, the Transportation Specialist will assist in designing Metra schedules and services which impact Metra’s six-county region. Analyze schedules and delay information to identify opportunities for schedule changes. Design and maintain department databases and reports. Assist the district transportation officers with maintaining the efficiency of the day-to-day operations of the department. Prepare scheduling files used by Metra’s GPS, website, on-board announcements, and third party consumers. Ride trains to observe on-board personnel and provide feedback to district directors. Perform other related duties as needed to meet the ongoing needs of the organization. This position requires flexible availability including early mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays. It also requires travel throughout Metra's six county region, including Cook, Will DuPage, Lake, Kane and McHenry counties.

Candidates can expect salary offers that range from the minimum to the mid-point of the salary range. Metra provides full pay ranges so candidate can consider their growth potential.

Metra is a railroad employer subject to the provisions of the Railroad Retirement Tax Act, not the Social Security Administration.

Requirements:
1. Bachelor's degree, preferably in Transportation, Logistics, Computer Science, Urban Planning, or Business-related field OR any degree that requires data analysis. In lieu of specified degree, any combination of education and experience may be substituted for the required degree that equals four (4) years in logistics/operations, preferably in railroading or transportation.
2. Knowledge of business computer user applications, particularly related to schedule analysis, data management and report production.
3. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
4. Skill in analyzing, collecting, evaluating, interpreting statistical data and maintaining records and files.
5. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
6. Must have reliable transportation to travel throughout Metra's six county region, including Cook, Will, DuPage, Lake, Kane and McHenry counties.
